February 2022 ZAGG Franchisee Spotlight: Nathan Whitlock

Nathan is one of our newer store owners who just opened his first store, ZAGG Penn Square, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in December 2021.

What made you want to open a ZAGG store?

I worked for ZAGG in Utah for 4 years, had a bunch of experience with the company, and it wasn’t overwhelming to open my own store. Once I did, I packed my bags and moved from Utah to Oklahoma.

What did you do before becoming a franchise owner?

I was a ZAGG sales rep at the University Mall location in Utah.

What has been the most rewarding part of being a franchisee? What has been the most unexpected struggle?

Being able to know exactly how to help someone has been really rewarding. Having worked at ZAGG prior, I have a lot of background information, what goes into it, how much ZAGG cares, and can actually help.

Why did you choose the ZAGG franchise?

The product is amazing and I am extremely impressed with brands! [ZAGG, InvisibleShield, Gear4, mophie, BRAVEN, & IFROGZ]

If you could go back to when you opened your franchise, what would you do differently, if anything, and would you do it again?

I wish I would have done more of my own research beforehand, in the sense of hiring someone to do construction on the store rather than myself.

Have you always wanted to own your own business?

Yes, always! My biggest barrier was finding the right one for me.

What are some tips you can give to fellow or aspiring small business owners?

Do your research and find what you love. Also, want to be the boss!

Anything else you’d like to add about your experience in the industry or plans for the future?

The franchise application and process went so smoothly with my Franchise Business Manager, and I’m planning to build 3 more stores in Oklahoma!
